Abstract: The EL 23971 tenement is located approximately 65 km northeast of Oenpelli in north-west Arnhem Land and is consequently processed under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1975 (ALRA). The geology of the tenement area comprises Cretaceous sedimentary cover of the Bathurst Island Formation with outcropping Proterozoic Kombolgie Sandstone in the southern most corner of the tenement overlying the Nimbuwah Formation, with the potential for subcrop of the Palaeoproterozoic Cahill Formation. The Arrla Bay region has been explored primarily for uranium. Historical exploration on the tenement has been undertaken by Union Carbide Exploration from 1970 to 1973 and PNC Exploration Australia and Cameco Australia from 1996 to 2004 on tenement EL 5891. Geoscience Australia's multi-client EM survey highlighted the potential for unconformity style uranium mineralisation under cover within EL 23971. This formed the basis for the helicopter supported sampling programme described in this report to explore for uranium anomalism. Four target areas were sampled comprising 3 rock samples, 7 stream sediment samples, 15 geobotanical samples, and 68 soil samples. The results from the sampling programme completed in October 2013 did not identify any substantial uranium or pathfinder anomalism. On this basis, a technical review over the tenement will be undertaken and the viability of further work will be determined.
