| Title: | The prospects of commercial oil on Bathurst and Melville Island, Northern Territory |
| Title Holder / Company: | Santos Australia |
| Report id: | PR1956-0006 |

| Corporate Author: | Geosurveys of Australia |
| Abstract: | The gravity survey shows variations which indicate the possibilities of a considerable depth of sediment under western Bathurst Island. Nothing is known of Pre-Cretaceous sediments on the islands. The area was selected by reason of its situation opposite the possible oil bearing island arc chain in a position comparable with that of Saudi Arabia in relation to Persian Gulf Oilfields. |
