Abstract: | The best access to this area is through Tipperary Station. Traveling through the station depends on what they are doing at the time and who you meet on the day. The work completed this year involved traveling to site and taking 6 x 10lt (a plastic bucket full) and grading it into plus 10mm and plus 6mm. The plus size gravel was washed and examined for pieces of Cassiterite. The minus 6mm part was washed down in a steel prospector's dish. The concentrates obtained were ground in the dish to identify any iron which may have been present. Iron when ground shows up as a red/brown color whilst cassiterite shows up as a light straw color. Most of the samples taken showed some cassiterite with one showing an estimated 1kg to the tonne. One piece of cassiterite in the 6-10mm size was found with a few stones with cassiterite on them were also found. The 'prospector's' test for cassiterite was used, that is hydrochloric acid with zinc will turn cassiterite a silver color. This test is quick and easy. |
