Title: 3D data compilation of the Birrindudu Basin, Northern Territory
Report id: DIP043
Year: 2024
Author: Foley, EK
Abstract: The Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS) has produced a 3D compilation of open-file geoscientific data for the Birrindudu Basin and its surrounds, which forms the western component of the greater McArthur Basin (Northern Territory, Australia). This compilation collates and synthesises much of the available downhole and regional geoscientific data for this frontier area into a pre-packaged 3D visualisation tool for explorers. Compiled data includes available surface and subsurface geochemistry, geophysics, geology, geochronology, SEEBASE interpretation, major structures, petrophysics and hyperspectral. The compilation encompasses 1D, 2D and 3D geoscientific datasets, accompanied by some pre-published interpretive elements. This data compilation is published as an NTGS Digital Information Package (DIP).
Key datasets include:
1D downhole datasets for mineral drillholes and petroleum wells in the area of interest including collar information, survey paths, stratigraphic markers and petrophysical logs (openable in Microsoft Excel and/or Notepad);
2D spatial datasets including geological map data and geophysical grids (openable using a standard suite of GIS software packages, including ArcGIS, QGIS and MapInfo); and
3D topographical and geological objects, saved as points, curves and surfaces (openable using the free Geoscience ANALYST Viewer software package).
