Abstract

From the time the lease was initially granted in 1963 to Trevor Cole to 1990: exploration and mineral exploration for the purposes of the extraction of gold was undertaken in the form of; surface excavations, radiographic techniques, and drilling. Mining operation came to focus on the quartz reef that runs in an approximate northerly direction in the western sector of the lease, in which several seams of gold were discovered. A large gantry was constructed, along with a shaft that descended into the quartz reef. Crushing, milling and refinement were carried out onsite. Alluvial ore was also excavated on the lease through an agreement with the adjacent lease holders. Following the death of Trevor Cole in 1994: Charles Cole care took the lease for approximately 2 years, following which, had to move into Darwin and was unable to take a regular presence on the lease. In the years that followed, a disagreement between the adjoining lease holder and an interstate partner resulted in the partner removing numerous items of machinery owned by the adjoining lease holder, while the all including the caretaker were in town. Note that in 2003 the transfer of 47.4 percent from Judith Cole to 23.7 percent Garth Cole and 23.7 percent Charles Cole as per the Will of the late Trevor Cole. Due to the lack of equipment and funds, it has not been possible to conduct any exploration or mining lease since approximately the year 1998.
