Abstract: | The McArthur River mine is one of the world's largest zinc, lead and silver mines, situated about 70 kilometers southwest of Borroloola, near the Gulf of Carpentaria in the Northern Territory. It is operated by McArthur River Mining (MRM), a subsidiary of the Swiss mining company Xstrata. MLN 1126 covers the Bing Bong Port Facility area. McArthur River Mine mines and processes zinc/lead concentrate which is transported approximately 110 km by road trains from the mine to Bing Bong where it is stockpiled. From there, a barge delivers parcels of the concentrate to ocean going vessels which anchor about 20 km from Bing Bong. During the 2011 - 2012 reporting period, no exploration work has been undertaken on the MLN. |
