Abstract: This report summarises the results of organic and inorganic analyses conducted at the Australian National University on Barney Creek Formation samples from various drill cores across the McArthur Basin. Conducted were elemental, Fe-speciation, source rock and biomarker analyses.
To reconstruct the paleoredox conditions during deposition of the BCF 1.6 billion years ago, a detailed iron speciation study was conducted on more than 170 samples across the McArthur Basin. The samples span different stratigraphic horizons across eight drill cores (Warramara 6: 25 samples, Myrtle 5: 11, Myrtle 4: 23, McArthur 5: 19, LV09001: 37, Glyde River 7: 35, Glyde River 10: 2, and Bing Bong 5: 18 samples), forming a north-south transect along the Emu Fault zone.
