Title: Soil Gas Reconnaissance Survey OP236
Report id: PR1985-0062
Tenure: OP236
Year: 1985
Corporate Author: Petrofocus
Abstract: This survey indicated eight zones containing clusters of samples in which one or more of the methane, ethane, propane and butane contents are anomalous. The magnitudes of hydrocarbon concentrations of anomalous samples are less than those expected over economic petroleum accumulations. However the sampling lines employed may not pass directly over potential petroleum fields and the results may be reflecting proximity to a field. Report mentions East Johnny's Creek 1, samples from lines WR-1, WR-3, WR-4 WR-5, WR-6 and WR-7. Petrofocus was commissioned by Sydney Oil to carry a reconnaissance soil gas geochemical survey over seismic survey lines, and roads in parts of OP236. The spacing of the survey lines, ranging from 6km to 15km, was recognised to be too great to permit detection and definition of all potential petroleum fields that may be present within the permit, but it was considered likely that some zones containing anomalous concentrations of the light alkanes would be encountered. If these zones correspond with structures believed to have potential for hosting commercial petroleum accumulations, it is planned to carry out additional sampling from closer-spaced lines at a later time.
