Abstract: A detailed study of the post-Carboniferous structural, burial, thermal and hydrocarbon maturation history (geohistory) of the OP238/EP2 area, and its relationship to hydrocarbon occurrence in the Simpson Desert Region. This has been followed by a review of the relationship between geohistory and hydrocarbon occurrence in the Cooper/Eromanga Basin, and a comparison between the Simpson Desert Region and the Cooper/Eromanga Basin. This has enabled conclusions to be drawn regarding the prospectivity of the region, and recommendations have been made regarding future exploration permits OP238 and EP2.
