Abstract: | The licensed area has been considered to be prospective for copper as the existing records show that the copper mineralisation in the area is of stratiform type. It was reported that secondary copper minerals occurred in green dolomitic siltstone and could be traced about 8 miles along strike. Work completed in the last twelve months include: Ground check the mineral occurrences within the licensed area, identify the copper mineralised strata; Check existing drill cores; Ground check aero magnetic anomalies in the licensed area; Check soil and stream sediment geochemical anomalies. Very rare sparsely distributed fine-grained malachite has been identified in green dolomitic siltstone along a fold limb in southern part of EL 29046 license area. Magnetic anomalies in the area reflect: (1) Regional structure; (2) In the southern part, magnetic anomaly may related to a ferruginous bed. Positive potassium anomaly in the southern part of EL 29046 may be indicative of thermal fluid activity along bedding plane. Further work is needed to clarify the relationship between the fluid activity and copper mineralisation. Apparently the copper mineralisation in the area is confined to green dolomitic siltstone. The copper-bearing stratum sits near bottom of Areyonga Formation, overlies pebble conglomerate, and is overlain by silicified sandstone and arkose. At current stage, there is no enough evidence to clarify genesis of the mineralization. Future work is needed. |
