Title: Interpretation of the Madigan Trough Area - Report
Title Holder / Company: Beach Petroleum
Report id: PR1969-0014
Tenure: OP57
Year: 1969
Corporate Author: Geosurveys of Australia
Abstract: This report outlines the review of the geophysical information available for the Madigan Trough area in OP57 within the Northern Territory. Magnetic and gravity information acquired from previous surveys were used to relate these geophysical data of the geological features of the Madigan trough area. An area within the Arunta block zone was selected for further detailed seismic interpretation and further seismic work.
The main feature of the magnetic basement map is the basin under the Simpson Desert. Originally in this region the hope of a mappable Lower Palaeozoic formation, similar to the Amadeus Basin was the target for oil exploration. The Bouguer anomaly in this zone is useful for delineating the structure and relative topography of the Permian sediments.
