Abstract: The 1960 Port Keats Seismic Survey was carried out by Austral Geo Prospectors Pty Ltd for Associated Australian Oilfields NL through their management affiliate, Mines Administration Pty Ltd. The seismic survey conducted within an area in OP2, is located south of the Port Keats Mission and on the peninsula which projects into the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf portion of the Timor Sea. The main objective of the program was to establish the distribution of the Paleozoic sediments south of Port Keats Mission and to obtain their thickness.
From the results of the survey it was determined that approximately 12,500ft (3.81km) of Paleozoic beds are present in the central parts of the area. Although the survey defines a small zone of the Paleozoic section, it is possible that the basin extends north and west from the locality worked.
