Abstract: | Exploration License EL 9309 Skipper Hill West was acquired by Giants Reef Exploration Pty Ltd (Giants Reef) to search for Tennant Creek style iron oxide copper-gold deposits. Giants Reef Exploration Pty Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Centralian Minerals Limited (formerly Giants Reef Mining Limited). This report records the exploration work done on EL 9309 during the term of tenure from the 29th November 1995 to the 28th November 2005. Exploration work carried out during the term included: Compilation and detailed review of all available historical exploration data; Reconnaissance field trips, including the inspection of all previously explored targets and examination of Palaeoproterozoic outcrops; Preliminary structural interpretation of geophysics and likely controls on mineralisation; RC drilling to test identified targets; Geophysical surveys, including ground magnetics, airborne magnetics and detailed geophysical interpretation of this data; and Collection, analysis and interpretation of soil and rock chip samples. The work completed has indicated the potential for the discovery of shallow concealed oxide (i.e. hematite) gold deposits, combined with the discovery of the haematite/magnetite Chariot deposit in 1998 has shown the potential for variations on the classic magnetite ironstone hosted gold +/- copper deposits, where lower order magnetic anomalies, plus gravity methods can define new targets. Discoveries by Giants Reef of mineralisation such as at Malbec West, Marathon and Billy Boy further support this. Giants Reef considers the potential for the discovery of mineralisation in haematite dominant ironstones amongst the identified targets within EL 9309 is excellent. |
