Abstract: The Lorella Project area consists of one tenement (EL 27483). Access is very good into the tenement. To assess EL 27483 for manganese potential, a reconnaissance field visit was undertaken from the 5th to the 11th of September 2011. Investigation of north-northwest striking structures associated with a manganese prospect to the south of the tenement was a priority. One historical lead and two copper prospects are located within EL 27483. These were also investigated during the recent September 2011 field trip. A new manganese occurrence, The Hammer was discovered near the copper prospect (Sly Creek). A total of 19 soil samples, 19 termite mound samples, 11 in situ rock samples and 6 none in situ rock samples were collect from the tenement. Rock samples showed manganese concentrations of up to 53% Mn (The Hammer). High manganese results appear to be associated with anomalous Ag values (up to 47ppm). Assay results plotted on a Co+Ni vs As+Cu+Mo+Pb+V+Zn plot, and compared to results published by Nicholson (1992) suggests that The Hammer manganese occurrence is hydrothermal in nature. Significant copper results of 2.2% and 4% were also returned from rock samples taken from one of the located historic copper occurrence (Sly Creek). Further work is required in order to better understand the depositional nature and extent of the manganese and copper in this region. A greater understanding of the control on mineralisation would facilitate future exploration.
