Title: Annual Report EL 8134 Kilgour Gorge 24 November 1998 to 23 November 1999
Title Holder / Company: Ashton Mining
Report id: CR1999-0519
Tenure: EL8134
Year: 1999
Author: Lewis, S
Abstract: This report summarises exploration activities during the year six of tenure. 13 loam samples were collected during the reporting period. Five samples contained moderate-priority chromite and two contained single micro-diamonds. All positive results occur within 1 km of the existing indicator anomaly, with most of the chromite-positive samples within 500 m of the south-eastern boundary. Further work will continue within the most prospective area of the licence. A photo-geological study was undertaken as well as airborne EM and magnetic survey over most of the licence area. Interpretation of the airborne data resulted in selection of 10 discrete anomalies for further follow-up work. A total of 23.85 km of ground EM data was collected in addition to 11.35 km of magnetic data and 3.2 km of gravity profile data. Six prospective targets were selected for RC drilling however there was no evidence to associate any of the geophysical anomalies with the kimberlite intrusion. Further work is needed to solve the nature and the location of the source-rock.
