Report on MCN 20 Glencoe, Grove Hill tenements for the 12 months to 31 December 1985

Abstract

During 1985 exploration for gold has continued on three blocks of mineral claims in the Grove Hill area. Alluvial and palaeoalluvial potential in the Central Block (Grove Hill North) has been downgraded by auger drilling and mapping. This has indicated very little potentially auriferous gravel beneath the Margaret River flood plain and a sub-economic resource in auriferous 'high level' old gravels. Some hard rock potential exists south of the Margaret River and further work is planned here. Work on the Eastern Block (Waterdrum) has been largely inconclusive. No highly prospective sites have been located but sonic slightly anomalous samples have been taken and the geological environment appears conducive to mineralisation. Further work is planned. In the Western Block, work has concentrated on the Glencoe Prospect. Surface sampling returned highly anomalous results and was followed up by a programme of mapping, auger drilling, costeaning and diamond drilling. Three promising target horizons have been located for further investigation. These include both quartz vein hosted and disseminated types of mineralisation. Costeaning and drilling has confirmed the location of the Prospect on a south-east plunging anticlinal axis in rocks tentatively allocated to the Mount Bonnie Formation. Mineralisation almost certainly extends beyond the western boundary of the tenements into an area recently granted to Magnum Resources as Exploration Licence 4810. A low level aeromagnetic survey encompassing the tenements and intervening ground was flown. At this date results are still being assessed but it is anticipated that this will enable the tracing of structural trends across the area of largely poor outcrop.
