Abstract: MLNs 808 and 821, together with MLN 969, form the McKinley River gold project. Previous mining was conducted in the 1930s. Hosfield surveyed the areas potential in 1940 and commissioned several deep costeans. Grades were encouraging, but little or no further work was carried out. In 1974, a Govt geologist, Newton, re-examined the area. Re-assay of the costeans and four drillholes showed a complex structural setting and, in apparent contraction of the earlier work, little gold. In 1993, Tom Starr reassayed the costeans for the third time; vindicating the original high gold values found by Hosfield. The area was then intensively costeaned and bulk sampled. 2000 t at 7.5 g/t was then mined and sent to Cosmo Howley but was not processed. More recently, four more holes were drilled. Ore grade material was intersected at 26m. Further mining is expected.
