Abstract: | The main activity in 2008 consisted of diamond core drilling at the March Fly prospect. The drilling was specifically aimed at duplicating the radioactively anomalous intervals intersected by Total Mining Australia Pty Ltd in their down-hole hammer drilling programs in 1988 and 1990. Cored intersections of the host sequence and anomalous structures have provided valuable data on the nature and setting of the mineralisation. The mineralised structures (shears, faults with quartz +/- tourmaline veining and associated alteration selvedges) are contained within a tightly folded sequence of metas and stone/quartzite, phyllite/schist and graphitic schist. Surface exploration at and near the prospect consisted of a grid-based spectrometer survey, which covered the prospect environs as well as extensions of the host sequence to the north and south. Final compilation and interpretation of the results of the diamond drilling program at the prospect is dependent upon receipt of the analytical data. It is expected that this data will be available in early 2009. Diamond drilling was also carried out on a reported gold occurrence in EL 25076 within sediments of the Tolmer Group. Despite the presence of abundant sulphides in places, drilling by Crossland failed to confirm the presence of gold or gold-bearing mineralisation. Early in the season, helicopter assisted ground checks and assessment were made of all radiometric anomalies identified in the 2007 airborne survey. Follow-up, close-spaced ground spectrometer surveys were carried out over 10 of the identified anomalies. |
