Abstract: | In May of 1988 Adelaide Petroleum NL, as operator of the Adelaide-Sabminco NL Joint Venture, were advised by Aboriginal Sacred Sites Authority that exploration of the tenement would constitute a breach of the Aboriginal Sacred Sites Act. The site has since been registered under the Act. Due to restrictions on exploration imposed by the Aboriginal Sacred Sites Authority, the joint venture have been precluded from conducting exploration on the tenement during the year. During the year the Northern Territory Government passed the Northern Territory Aboriginal Sacred Sites Act 1989, which imposed a new authority to protect sacred sites in the Territory, and repealed the previous Act being the Aboriginal Sacred Sites Authority. The company intends to commence negotiations with the new authority with a view to gaining access to enable it to carry out its exploration program. |
