Abstract: | During 1989 a regional evaluation of the whole project area was undertaken using photogeological studies and stream sediment geochemistry. This program identified several new prospect areas, in particular the Mount Diamond Mount Davis region, the Double Antie Prospect and the area to the north of the old Brilliant workings. These were all investigated further by geological mapping, rock and soil geochemistry and Bulk Leach Extractable Gold stream sediment sampling. Some encouragement for the occurrence of economic mineralisation was obtained in the Mount Davis-Hamilton's Workings and Walden's workings areas, across the north of the Project Area. Both prospects will be explored in detail during the coming field season. Also, during 1989, comprehensive investigations involving detailed geological mapping, rock geochemistry, trenching and-or bulldozed rip-line bedrock sampling and percussion-RC drilling, were completed over the Saunders Rush, Lake Wandie and Kim Prospects. All are centred on old eluvial-alluvial and minor hard rock workings, and both Kim and Lake Wandie have been recently strip-mined for eluvial gold by United and Commercial Holdings Limited. A total of 1525m of drilling was completed, however the results at all three prospects were very disappointing, confirming of the gold mineralisation. at any of these prospects. the weak, erratic nature No further work is justified. A similar program of geological mapping and soil and rock geochemistry was undertaken over the Brilliant Prospect. Results are moderately encouraging, sufficient to continue exploration by sub surface testing with trenches and-or RAB drilling, leading possibly to deeper percussion drilling. It is expected that the fourth field season of exploration over the Wandie Project Area will complete the evaluation of all remaining prospect areas prior to the next area relinquishment, due on 26 August 1990. |
