Abstract: | Exploration activities of EL 3301 during the 14 month period ending 1 June 1985 can be summarized as follows: After a general model for the structural control of the base metals deposits was developed a more detailed classification of structural elements provided us with a tool to recognise the effects of the three deformational episodes from a rock outcrop to hand specimen scale. Geochemical investigation of host rock minerals; in order to determine whether base metals were present in the meta-sedimentary pile or were introduced at a larger stage. The results indicated a mixture of volcanogenic boron-silicates (tourmaline) and magmatic (reworked?) tourmalines. Zinc was present as an early constituent of the metasedimentary sequence as shown by anomalous zinc contents of staurolite and biotite. Exploration drilling of geophysical anomalies near the Bellbird lode, the rockface lode, the southern continuation of the Green Parrot lode and the new lode horizon in the North part of EL 3301, which could be a East continuation of the folded lode horizon. The main conclusion form the structural analysis is that abundant evidence exists that the lode horizon has been folded again by a steep isoclinal fold system. This interpretation implies that the lode horizon has been folded into a synform which physically limits the depth at which ore can be expected North of the Reward mime. The hinge of the synform will become shallower towards the North, which explains the marked increase of geomagnetic gradients toward the northern part of the J-structure. |
