Abstract: | EL 4196 operated by Talmina Trading, was granted to R M Biddlecombe on the 20 May 1983. The licence covers the Mt. Shoobridge area, located 130 kilometres south south east of Darwin. The Mt,. Shhbridge area contains numerous small base metal and tin prospects most of which were abandomed at the turn of the century. The area is prospective for tin mineralisation associated with the numerous pegmatites and their associated alluvial sheds. The area is also prospective for gold mineralisation associated with two anticlinal structures, mineralised shear and fracture zones and units of the South Alligator Group. During the year general prospecting, mapping and a costeaning programme were carried out over the central belt of EL 4196. Fine gold was found associated with the Mt. Shoobridge fault and a number of costeans were costeans were excavated to test this zone as well as associated pegmatites. To date no results are available. Panning of the alluvial sheds has indicated a resource of 76,000m3 with a grade of 1 to 2 1bm3 cassiterite. In the 1984 85 period a small plant will be set in the area to process the allivials and at the same time bulk test the pegmatite bodies. To test for gold mineralisation a stress sediment sampling programme will be conducted over the prospective zones. This will delineate areas for further work. |
