Abstract: | Three holes, totalling 729.4 m., were drilled at Malawiri Prospect during May 1982. GCRD 20 (T.D. 292.8 m.), collared on a new section approximately 60 metres west of GCRD 12, intersected the desired lithology at depth, but no mineralization was encountered. GCRD 21 (T.D. 255.0 m.) and GCRD 22 (T.D. 181.6 m.) were then drilled at the eastern end of the prospect to clarify existing sections. Both holes intersected narrow uraninite-rich zones 50 to 60 metres from previously known mineralization. Mineralization occurs at Malawiri Prospect in narrow seams at or near the edges of a zone of intense hematite alteration, particularly near the northern (or basal ?) edge. This ''mottled zone' extends throughout the prospect area at a particular stratigraphic level, but is mineralized only at its eastern end. Drilling in 1981 and 1982 has failed to locate mineralization west of Section 3. It seems likely that the mineralized body is lensoid, rather than planar, in section, and that a cross-fault between Sections 3 and 4 has displaced it above the level of erosion or below the depth of present drilling. |
