Abstract: | A total of 211 reconnaissance soil sample sites were geochemically tested within the relinquished parts of AC 74. Sites were spaced at 500 metres intervals along east-west traverses as part of systematic reconnaissance exploration activities in the Kurinelli area. Samples were collected in two separate periods; 205 were collected during the initial reconnaissance soil sampling program in 2004 and the remainder (6 samples) were collected in follow-up activities in 2005. All sample sites were located by hand-held GPS with about 500g of the -2 millimetre size fraction collected at the B/C soil horizon geochemical analysis. All samples were assayed for Au, Pt and Pd. A separate -80# size fraction was also collected at the B/C horizon in the initial program and hence 205 sample sites were also assayed for Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni and Co. 200 of the 211 sites yielded gold values at or below 1 ppb, the level of determination. Only two sites within the area relinquished area were found to have possibly anomalous gold-in-soil geochemical values (site 137803, 9ppb Au and site 137681, 4 ppb Au). Although possibly anomalous, the potential of these sites is considered not worthy of continued exploration at this stage because large coherent regions exceed 10 ppb Au within the retained area of AC 74. Assay data for Pt, Pd, Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni and Co within the relinquished area were all low and did not exceed the range of average crustal values. Reconnaissance geochemical sampling has demonstrated large regions displaying anomalous gold-in-soil assays within the Kurinelli area. These areas have been retained as part of AC74. |
