Abstract: | Initial work programs comprised of collecting and collating all available water bore information. A number station bores, community, road and railway bores exist within the permit area. All available airborne geophysical data was also examined. Field exploration consisted of three methods: rock chip analysis; water bore chip analysis; and water sample analysis. The first site visit was disrupted by wet weather and was reduced to discussions with the station management only. Subsequent field visits to the permit area were also hampered by rainfall and required two separate field programs to complete. A number of water bore chip samples were obtained from the Mines and Energy Department Core Facility in Alice Springs and were sent for analysis. The results of the program were disappointing. The uranium and rare earth concentrations in both the groundwater and chip samples were, at best, only slightly above background levels. Despite the large size of the pegmatite dike, no further work is recommended for EL 28052. |
