Final report for EL 23630 Winnecke for the period 5 March 2007 to 24 August 2009

Abstract

This report summarizes work carried out on EL 23630 for the entire tenure period up to 24th August 2009 when the tenement was surrendered. EL 23630 was granted to Imperial Granite and Minerals Pty Ltd (50%) and Tennant Creek Gold (NT) Pty Ltd (50%) on 5th March 2003. The licence was purchased by WDR Gold Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Western Desert Resources Ltd, on 20th July 2007. The tenement is located about 65km north east of Alice Springs in the southern part of the Northern Territory. The project area falls within the Aileron Province of the Palaeoproterozoic Arunta Block, which is aged between 1840-1760Ma. The local geology is complex. Strongly deformed rocks of the Arunta Block occur to the north and south of folded outliers of Heavitree Quartzite and Bitter Springs Formation of the Amadeus Basin. The tenement covers the Winnecke Goldfield. Gold was discovered in the area around 1900. Mining activities took place between 1901 and 1905, and also between 1933 and 1937, with about 1500oz of gold produced. The gold mineralisation in the Winnecke Goldfield occurs in quartz veins within the sediments of the nappe and in altered basement rocks along its northern margin. Exploration has been conducted in the area since 1980 by a number of companies for base metals, gold and diamonds. No economic deposits have been discovered. Western Desert Resources Ltd (WDR) undertook airborne magnetic/radiometric and EM surveys over the EL in late 2007 and early 2008. Interpretation of the airborne EM data has delineated a number of anomalous bedrock conductors which should be followed up. These anomalies are not associated with known mineral occurrences. A helicopter-borne field assessment of the anomalies delineated by the airborne EM survey was conducted in April 2009. Geological mapping and rock chip sampling was undertaken during this field assessment. EL 23630 was surrendered on 24th August 2009.
