Abstract: | 22/09/1971 to 19/10/1971 - Details of previous aeromagnetic surveys over the area have been plotted on a scale of 1:12000, the scale to be used for geological mapping of the area. No anomalies require immediate follow up, but several small features will be located on the ground with the reconnaissance magnetometer. Attempts have been made to re-establish the old Explorer 26 grid but these have been suspended until the positions of the North Star leases can be plotted on base plans to eliminate any risk of our work transgressing onto the leases. 20/10/1971 to 16/11/1971 - A start has been made on the reconstruction of the Explorer 26 grid. A new field geologist took up duties at the base at the end of the period and will immediately commence field mapping in the area. 17/11/1971 to 14/12/1971 - Geological mapping of the area has commenced. The northern section around the Warramunga-Thompkinson Creek beds unconformity is almost completed. 12/01/1972 to 08/02/1972 - Geological mapping continued throughout the poerid. most of the AP has now been mapped on a scale of 1:1200. Work is proceeding on attempts to correlate the Warramunga Group rocks with those previously mapped to the east and south. |
