Title: Report on AP 3163 Simpson, June 1971
Title Holder / Company: Central Pacific Minerals
Report id: CR1971-0164
Tenure: AP3163
Year: 1971
Abstract: A preview report on the available geophysics in the area was prepared. It is probable that the magnetics (4 mile traverses flown by BMR) mainly reflect the structure within a regionally metamorphosed basement. Areas of low magnetic intensity are probably related to granitic intrusions. These intrusions have produced a metamorphic aureole which is reflected in the magnetics as a zone of narrow intense anomalies transcurrent to the main anomoly trend. A reconnnaissance flight along the Hay River between Mt Winnecke and Lake Caroline was completed earlier in the month. The purpose of the fflight was to obtain basic information on outcrop geology before entering this remote area. It was also hoped to obtain information on the accessibility of possible drill sites should the proposed BMR drilling programme be carried out in this area. The BMR Simpson Desert stratigraphic drilling programme commenced on the 9th June 1971 and to date 1 hole is completed and a second hole was commenced at the locations indicated on the accompanying diagram. A rough log of the holes is found in the hardcopy of the company report, page 1.
