Title: Annual and final report on EL 3568
Title Holder / Company: BHP Minerals
Report id: CR1983-0348
Tenure: EL3568
Year: 1983
Author: Dunster, J
Abstract: BHP Minerals applied for this EL of 192 blocks on 15 March 1982. The title was granted 30 June 1982 for six years. Surrender was lodged on 8 August 1983. The title was over the Canning Basin in NT on the Pedestal Hills 100K sheet, The Granites 250K sheet and the EL was along the WA / NT border. The primary target was diamonds hosted in kimberlitic pipes. Base metals were a secondary target. A sacred sites clearance was undertaken and an aerial photography acquired. In July and August 1982, an aeromagnetic / aeroradiometric survey was flown at 500 m line spacing. Three magnetic anomalies that were considered potential kimberlite targets were identified. These were checked with ground magnetics and found to be due to surface maghemite or laterite. Similarly, none of the circular photo-features were found to kimberlites. No base metal exploration was undertaken.
