Title: | Year 1 report for EL 24348 |
Title Holder / Company: | Alterra Services |
Report id: | CR2006-0110 |
Tenure: | EL24348 |
Year: | 2006 |
Abstract: | EL 24348 was obtained in order to investigate a 3 km diameter, circular, ring-like, aeromagnetic feature found at the centre of the license area. While the magnet data suggested the feature may be the result of an impact, more information was required before the possibility of an intrusive origin could be eliminated. The aim of exploration was to test the possibility of the feature being a diamondiferous pipe. The exploration also aimed to determine if the structure represented by the feature may host a base metal deposit, regardless of its origins. Fieldwork conducted in the previous year comprised of geochemical and petrologic sampling and a ground gravity profile. The geochemistry showed no evidence of lamproite or kimberlite, or significant base metal deposit. The gravity data showed a gravity low directly relating to the magnetic feature, with a slight high at the center of this low. Interpretation of the gravity data is yet to be completed. Results so far are inconsistent with those expected for a kimberlitic/lamproitic pipe or a base metal deposit. |
