Abstract: | The Boomerah Lagoon Exploration Licence 9719 was explored as part of the Roper River Diamond Project. It is located approximately 430 kilometres SE of Darwin, within the Moroak (5668) 1:100,000 and Urapunga (SD53-10) 1:250,000 map sheets. It is centered over Boomerah Lagoon. The Exploration Licence 9719 covers an area of 16.2 square kilometres and was granted to Tawana Resource NL on the 6 September 2002. The main target is the possibility of concealed diamondiferous intrusions hidden below the alluvium. The most active previous diamond explorer within the area was Stockdale Prospecting Limited. All previous stream samples test the drainage coming into EL9719, and the grid loam samples were collected to assist in the delineate the Packsaddle Kimberlite Dyke which outcrops to the south of EL 9719. All the kimberlite grain counts were low within EL 9719. No field work was completed within the Licence area. The only activity was the review of all historical diamond exploration within the area as part of the Roper River Diamond Project. Given the extensive nature of the flood plain sediments of the Roper River within the Licence area, it was decided that the cost of exploring beneath this extensive transported cover was not warranted at this time. |
