Abstract: | In 1997, Tanami Exploration NL (TENL) identified the potential for Tanami-style gold-only, iron oxide copper-gold (IOCG) and Tennant Creek-style copper-gold mineralisation in the Alcoota district of the Arunta region and acquired a significant tenement package to form the Alcoota Project. TENL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tanami Gold NL (TGNL), a publicly listed company. The Alcoota Project lies approximately 150 kilometres northeast of Alice Springs in the Aileron Province of the Arunta region, North Australian Craton. Access is provided via the Stuart, Plenty and Sandover Highways, all of which cross the Project area. EL 9801, 9802 and 9805 form part of the Alcoota Project and were all granted to TENL on 28 July 2003. EL 9801 and 9805 were surrendered on 27 July 2005. A partial surrender was completed after the second year of tenure for EL 9802. This report describes the exploration during these two years on the surrendered tenement areas. Exploration consisted of a regional assessment of the Alcoota project area, including a field reconnaissance trip in November-December 2003. The assessment was carried out by Dr. Jim Anderson and included evaluation of topography, geology, metallogeny, MODAT occurrences, previous exploration and aeromagnetic data in conjunction with a brief field reconnaissance trip. A total of 10 and 16 rockchip samples were taken on EL 9801 and EL 9805, respectively. No samples were taken from the surrendered portion of EL 9802. Based on the regional assessment and the rockchip sampling it was recommended that EL 9801 and 9805 were relinquished, as well as a considerable portion of EL 9802. |
