Abstract: | The Eva Valley Exploration License 1594 was taken up by Nord Resources (Pacific) Pty Ltd., in August 1977, with the object of evaluating the area for tin, base metal, silver, gold and uranium mineralisation. After preliminary evaluation, a Joint Venture was formed between Nord Resources (Pacific) Pty Ltd., H.C. Sleigh Resources Ltd. and Newmont Pty Ltd. in July, 1979, the latter acting as exploration managers. Exploration during the next two months comprised of detailed geological mapping, selected rock chip sampling for geochemical and mineralogical analysis, gridding of potential areas, airborne magnetic survey and ground pulsed electromagnetic survey's (EMP). The programme was designed to test the base metal massive sulphide mineralisation potential in an exhalative banded iron formation. The EMP system which is capable of effectively detecting massive sulphide bodies down to a depth of 300 m failed to detect any potential mineralisation in the Eva Valley B.I.F. horizon. The Joint Venture was consequently terminated. |
