Abstract: | Prior to the agreement with Peko Mines NL, several men were employed by S. Kovacs in surface prospecting of the area. Indications of gold mineralisation were noted at several places near a prominent quartz vein in the southern central part of the AP. Specimens collected by these prospectors were assayed by Australian Development NL and Peko Mines NL assay labs and geological inspections of the area made by several geologists at the request of the holder. Most of the localities visited did not appear favorable but one about a half mile north of this quartz ridge consistently yielded samples assaying over 4 dwts/ton gold. A pit in hard siliceous gossan was sunk to a depth of about 6 feet at this locality by the prospectors. A similar outcrop of gossanous material was also opened up about 600 feet to the east of the first. Gold values were, however, much more variable and generally lower than at the original pit. This prospecting work was ceased when the agreement with Peko Mines was made. Report recommends 100 metre diamond drill hole. |
