Abstract: | EL 6946 has been explored for diamonds and metals by means of remote sensing techniques and high density drainage sampling. Remote sensing studies were in the form of air-photo interpretation, TM studies using satelite imagery and an airborne geophysical survey. Geophysical interpretation of the magnetic/radiometric survey produced two high priority and four low priority anomalies, which were selected for follow up. A strain mapping analysis was also carried out suggesting that the area is highly prospective for magmatic and magmatic related occurrences. A sampling programme was carried out which mainly involved the collection of heavy mineral stream sediment and loam samples. Some geochemical samples were also collected. The heavy mineral results provided some encouragement as a number of possibly kimberlitic indicator minerals were reported as well as two diamonds. Only one of the geochemical samples collected was thought to warrant follow up. Further heavy mineral drainage and loam sampling was completed in order to follow up the kimberlitic indicators recovered from first pass sampling. The area where the geochemicaly anomalous sample was found, was gridded and sampled giving 54 soil samples and 8 stream sediment samples. Results for the follow up sampling were awaited at the time of this report, and therefore they are submited in CR1993-0011. |
