Abstract: This report is submitted to the Northern Territory Department of Mines and Energy and details exploration carried out on EL 4456 during the period December 1984 - December 1985. Exploration Licence 4456 is located on the Cox Peninsula south west of Darwin. It is one of a number of licences held by the Bynoe Joint Venture in the region, for the exploration and development of cassiterite and tantalite pegmatite and alluvial deposits. The Bynoe Joint Venture partners are Greenbushes Tin Ltd and Barbara Mining Corporation a subsidiary of Bayer AG of West Germany. Greenex the exploration division of Greenbushes Ltd is the operator of the joint venture. Geological Traverses - Exploration traverses located a number of quartz veins with the regional N-NW trend, which conforms with that of the pegmatites. None of the veins contained muscovite and it is thought that these veins have no close pegmatite affinities. Drill Results - The results of auger drilling two lines across the main drainage in EL 4456 failed to locate any significant mineralization. The poor results suggest there is little possibility of a near surface pegmatite source in the catchment area. Decrepitomety - Three samples of outcropping quartz veins from within the licence were included in the Decrepitometry testwork. Two samples came from quartz veins at locations one and two. Costeaning (see 1985 Annual Report) had shown them to be barren quartz veins. The third came from a vein between these two locations.
