Abstract: | The area was examined as part of a study of the Tertiary and (?)Mesozoic Burt Plain sedimentary basin as a possible host for sedimentary uranium mineralisation, which was noted at shallow depth, and tested by auger drilling in the New Well area on Napperby Station. Results of the work have not been very encouraging, but it is proposed to retain some of the area as Exploration Licences to allow further investigations to continue. Investigations carried out over the area were not very encouraging from the point of view of the possible occurrence of sedimentary uranium deposits in the basin sediments, and the lack of stratigraphic information in the area makes he correlation of the data collected difficult. Surface radioactivity in the southwestern portion of the AP, and anomalous amounts of radon in solution in some samples of groundwater, together with some radioactive zones encountered in gamma logs of some of the bores in this area, suggest that some further work in this area is necessary. With this in mind, application for two Exploration Licences have been made to protect part of the ground on expiry of the Authority to Prospect. |
