Abstract: This the first and only report on a helicopter reconnaissance to investigate the limestone potential of coastal and offshore reefs and deposits from Gunn Point to Melville Island. Historical evidence of previous exploration for such deposits is presented. Storm-derived accumulations of coral and shell debris and in situ reefs were examined and sampled. Storm-derived material can amount to considerable tonnages but appears to be reworked quickly after deposition. The companies recommended that coral debris should be removed and stockpiled on the mainland. No further work was warranted and ELA 2980 was withdrawn 03-08-1989 before grant.
