Abstract: | The Una May Prospect is located within Exploration License 972, in the Northern Territory. The co-ordinates of EL 972 are longitudes 13745'E and 13759'E and latitudes 1738'S and 17 45'S. The actual area, surveyed is approximately 1km2 , and is located at about co-ordinates 13753E', 1742'S. Road access to the area is from the east via Doomadgee Mission, Queensland. This survey was undertaken to enlarge upon ?Preliminary Review of the Una May Uranium Prospect, E.L. 972 Northern Territory? by RB Wilson of North Flinders Mines Ltd, October, 1978. An area including approximately one km2 was gridded at 50m intervals and marked with metal star pickets. The lines were orientated at Az 118; the east-west stations were numbered from 00-1000 and the north-south stations from 00-S-00. The centreline K was extended eastwards for an additional distance of 1000m. Elevations were taken at each station, and a topographic map prepared with contour intervals of 50m. Soil samples were taken at all stations on the grid and sieved to minus 180 um. A geological map was prepared, based on field traverse. A number of spectrometer readings were taken; values were generally low, and no anomalous readings were found. The survey was therefore terminated. It is recornended that; 1. The soil samples taken during this project be analysed, the values plotted, and that the relationship between the structures to mineralization be defined. 2. The extension of the Una May Nappe along strike be mapped, and that further soil sampling be carried out along these extensions. 3. A photogeological study be carried out to follow the extension of the Una May Nappe, beyond the boundaries of the present exploration license. 4. Based upon the above studies, it may be envisaged to acquire other exploration licenses. 5. Based upon the above studies, a primary drilling target be chosen. |
