EL 9528, North Rankin, eigth annual and final report for the year ending 8 September 2004

Abstract

Exploration Licence 9528 is located 70 km northeast of Alice Springs and was explored as part of the Winnecke Project. This report describes the exploration carried out on EL 9528 during the eighth year of grant to 8 September 2004 and summarises exploration during the previous seven years. Tanami Exploration NL (TENL) a wholly owned subsidiary of Tanami Gold NL (TGNL), purchased the tenement from Centralfield Minerals Pty Ltd (Centralfield) in May 1999. TENL acquired the Winnecke Project tenements (ELs 8164 and 9528) to explore for gold mineralisation associated with a major east-west-trending retrograde shearzone in the tenement area. In late 2002 a joint venture between Tanami and an alliance of TeckCominco/BHP Billiton (Teck/BHPB) was formed. Under the joint venture agreement Teck/BHPB had the rights to explore the tenement for polymetallic base metal deposits. The GeoDiscovery Group Pty Ltd (GeoDiscovery) carried out the exploration on behalf of Teck/BHPB. Exploration in the first seven years of tenure included:

Acquisition and reprocessing of aeromagnetic data,

Acquisition of satellite imagery,

Regional mapping, and

Several geochemical sampling programs. All previous exploration was discussed in the annual reports listed in the bibliography. During the eighth year of tenure, aircore drilling tested the Woolanga lineament and structures parellel to the Winnecke Shear under the Tertiary Hale River Basin. A total of 18 holes were completed on EL 9528 for 1148 metres. Neither the geochemical sampling programs nor the aircore drilling returned elevated gold or base metal mineralisation.
