Abstract

During the last year Rio Tinto completed a helicopter-borne EM/magnetic survey. The review of the data resulted in the identification of 29 potential kimberlite targets. These were followed by sampling programs. The results were encouraging as three loam samples returned micro diamonds and four contained kimberlitic indicator minerals. Sixteen high priority kimberlitic targets were coincident EM/gravity or geophysical and /or geochemical responses. All targets were drilled and 2m composite samples were collected and analytically analysed and tested for magnetic susceptibility. Drilling results were disappointing, none of the holes intersected kimberlitic diatremes or dykes.
