Abstract: The area is is eight miles west of the Howley railway siding. Previous work had identified a number of small copper workings. Anomalous radioactivity had been found by the BMR surveys in the tributaries of Howley Creek and in Ryan Creek. In July, a reconnaissance scintillometer survey was flown. A significant anomaly was found, but attributed to thorium. Ground parties hand augered the area to 6 feet. Radioactivity decreased with depth. Samples were not worth assaying. Despite the discouragement, further holes drilled to basement were proposed but early rains prevented further work. In a separate final assessment, outcrop of bedrock along strike was found to be less radioactive than the alluvium in and around the creeks. It was concluded that the radioactivity anomaly was due to surficial alluvium which absorbed minerals. Minerals other than uranium were not pursued.
