Abstract: | This report details work undertaken on the relinquished portion of EL 9421 which is considered unprospective for Tennant creek style ironstone hosted Au-Cu-Bi deposits. The exploration programme in the first year of tenure included reprocessing and interpretation of available aeromagnetic data, regolith mapping and RAB drilling of two drill holes. A regolith map was made for the licence using aerial photography and field inspection. The large areas of depositional regolith present would make soil sampling results unreliable and vacuum drilling would therefore be required. Only two holes were drilled due to drilling difficulties. Depositional material noted in the RAB logs carrelate with the different depositional zones on the regolith map. In the second year of tenure the tenement was covered by detailed aerial magnetic and radiometric surveys as well as a detailed gravity survey. The data obtained from the geophysical surveys was interpreted to define basement geological domains within the tenement area and the major fault zones which separate these domains. The basement geological domains (Warramunga Formation, Flynn Subgroup and granitoid intrusives) are bound by NE and NW trending major faults, intrusive contacts and unconformable stratigraphic contacts. |
