Abstract: | Exploration carried out during the year included a literature review and an aerial photograph interpretation of the tenement area. Ground follow-up involving geological mapping and rock-chip sampling of prospective areas is planned. A thorough literature review of the area covered by the Exploration Licence was undertaken. All the early production reports relate to mining of alluvial and shallow hardrock gold ore at Sandy Creek, Princess Louise, Neates Gully, Radford's Blow, Yam Creek and Margaret River Gold deposits. No records were located to indicate that any previous mining activity has been undertaken within the boundaries of the current tenement. A review of previous exploration reports covering the general area did not locate any evidence of recent exploration work within the Exploration Licence. An aerial photograph interpretation was undertaken using 1:60,000 colour aerial photgraphs and a colour photograph enlargement at 1 :25000. The interpretation indicates that the tenement is underlain by siltstones of the Burrell Creek Formation. The outcrop within the tenement area is generally characterised by scattered outcrops of low to moderate relief which generally occur as ridges parallel to the strike of meta-sediments. The majority of the area is covered by a thin veneer of sandy alluvium with areas of black soil developed along the drainage channels. The meta-sediments generally strike north-south with moderate to steep dips to both the east and west. The trend of the lithologies swings gently to the northwest to the north of the tenement as a major regional fault is approached. Structurally, the more prominent outcrops reveal a moderately folded sequence with a central north plunging anticline. This closure is more clearly defined in outcrops of probable Mt Bonnie Formation lithologies that occur to the south of the tenement. The interpreted axial plane of this structure require further exploration, particularly as the small copper showings to the north lie along the projected position of the anticlinal hinge. A small synclinal fold is interpretated to occur along the eastern boundary of the tenement, however a lack of outcrops prevents it projection for any great distance. |
