Title: | Annual report EL 5124. |
Title Holder / Company: | Young RJ |
Report id: | CR1989-0153 |
Tenure: | EL5124 |
Year: | 1989 |
Abstract: | Exploration Licence 5124 is located approximately 50 kilometres south of Pine Creek. Access is via the Stuart Highway from Pine Creek, a distance of 53 kilometres, then east along a dirt road, which traverses immediately south of the area from southwest to the northeast. The area is undulating to very steep and accessible with 4 x 4 drive vehicles. The Licence consists of six graticular blocks or approximately 18 sq km and was due for reduction to three blocks in December 1989. Mining Management Services ty Ltd were contracted by Wyrala Pty Ltd to evaluate the mineral potential with specific emphasis on the gold potential of EL 5124 which is located immediately west of the old Yenberrie Wolfram Field. Wyrala Pty Ltd failed to take up the option agreement and the property was offered to Auridiam Consolidated N.L. in October 1988. This report summarizes the work carried out by Mining Management Services Ltd and Auridiam Consolidated N.L. Mining Management Services Pty Ltd carried out: i. an evaluation of previous data; ii. airphoto interpretation; iii. ground traverses of prospective target areas; iv. geological mapping and rock chip sampling of favourable areas. Auridiam Consolidated carried out: i. general reconnaissance ii. rock chip sampling of favourable locations The descriptions of the Yenberrie Wolfram Field suggested there may have been a segregation of sodic phases within the Tennyson Granite. The possibility of an aplitic dyke hosted tantalum deposit was investigated, but ground inspections and analysis data failed to justify further investigation. EL 5124 was thought to have potential for gold mineralization within Burrell Creek Formation Sediments in the north-east of the licence area. An initial rock chip sampling programme identified three significantly anomalous areas The north-east corner sample Y13010 = 0.3g/t Au in a weakly ferruginous quartz vein. Follow-up sampling along strike and other quartz veins in the area failed to produce significant results. The NNW trending quartz vein near the Moline Road Sample 7001 was a ferruginous quartz vein which returned an assay of 2.45g/t Au. Follow-up sampling included a repeat of the original and five other samples of quartz collected along strike from the original sample. Grades ranged from 0.088 to 2.43 qu/tonne. In the south-east of El 5124 sample 15013 returned an assay of 0.076g/t Au and 3000ppm As. The high arsenic known to be associated with gold elsewhere in the region warranted follow-up sampling, but time did not permit. No further work is recommended on exploration for Sn, Ta, W, Mo mineralization hosted in aplitic phases of Tennyson Granite. Rock chip sampling of Burrell Creek Formation in the east of El 5124 produced anomalous results in three locations. Time did not permit follow-up sampling of sample 15013 (Au 0.076g/t, As 3000ppm). This should be checked at some future date. Follow-up sampling of Yl30l0 (Au 0.3g/t) failed to repeat the original assay and no further work is recommended. The follow-up work on sample 7001 (Au 2.45g/t) produced sufficient encouragement to warrant trending and channel sampling of the mineralized zone, in several places. |
