Abstract: | Exploration licence 4995 covers metamorphic and iqneous rocks of the Arunta Block in the Ambalindum-Claraville area to the northwest of Arltunga. In November 1987, White Industries Limited entered into an agreement with the holder, O.K. Bogie, to explore for economic gold mineralisation in the area. Known gold deposits in the Arltunga area occur in structurally controlled quartz veins, usually associated with minor copper and arsenic mineralisation. Initial appraisal was made by stream sediment sampling. Samples were tested for low-level gold, copper and arsenic. Several minor copper and arsenic anomalies were located but no gold was detected. A preliminary assessment indicates that the higher copper-arsenic values are associated with more mafic host rocks. They are thought to represent normal background values for such host rocks rather than pathfinder anomalies from mineralised zones. Follow-up work will consist of geological mapping and selected rock-chip sampling, concentrating in areas with anomalous Cu and As. Zones of structural deformation will be examined. |
