Abstract: | This report describes preliminary reconnaissance gold exploration carried out over the whole area by exploration consultants CEONORTH in August 1988. The work completed comprised drainage geochemical sampling, geological reconnaissance and rock chip sampling of selected mineralised formations, and had the objective of defining prospective target areas for more detailed follow up work. Ceological traversing of the area was carried out using 1:25,000 scale colour serial photography for positioning. Samples were collected of rocks which had possibilities of being mineralised where these were encountered. A total of 26 rock samples were taken and analyzed for gold, tin, copper, lead, zinc and arsenic. Sample locations are shown and analytical results are provided. Samples were collected from 31 sites on the drainages, selected so as to provide material derived from all parts of the area. At each site three types of samples were collected. (I) A bulk ( 5 kg) sample of minus 2 mm sediment; this was analyzed for gold by cyanide leach extraction (BLEC). (ii) A 100 gm sample of minus 80 mesh sediment; this was analyzed for gold, copper, lead and zinc. (iii) A 5 kg gravel sample from a suitable heavy mineral trap (if available); this was panned and the concentrate visually examined for minerals of interest. The locations of the drainage samples are shown and analyses and panning results are provided in the appendixes. |
