Abstract: During the 1987 field season, CEGBEA carried out a uranium exploration programme on EL 4962. Data from an airborne gamma ray spectrometer and magnetometer survey in 1985 indicated uranium channel anomalism which was followed up by detailed ground radiometric, magnetic and ROAC surveys. Contoured ROAC data outlined a 400m zone of moderate to strong anomalism on uranium anomaly U1, which correlated with radiometric ridges of 350-500 cps and more intense magnetic horizons. Five dianond drill holes with percussion precollars over this area intersected fresh graphitic and pyritic shale between 20-30m. Radiometric downhole logging indicated weakly anomalous radioactivity at the weathering interface and two moderate peaks between 31-53m in PD87U1.3 (the northwesterly hole). The anomalous values can be attributed to the passage of groundwater bearing uranium daughter elements. At Uranium Anomaly U5, the detailed ground survey indicated a weak to moderate anomaly in the south-east of the grid.
