Abstract: | BE Cornish and Associates were engaged to study the barite deposits at Kirrkimbie Yard. The barite veins occur in the Antrim Plateau Basalt. Of the six largest known steeply dipping barite veins systems, two (West and Main Lodes) were mined by South Australian Barytes in 1971-72. About 30,000 tonnes were removed. Approximately 3200 metres of vein material outcrops with an average width between 0.8 and 2.1 metres. The six lodes are estimated to contain 475,000 tonnes. Individual assessments are given for each lode. |
