Abstract: The ground close to these anomalies is low-lying and nearly flat, within the drainage basin of Barramundie Creek and its tributaries. Black and brown soil flats are present over about half of the local surface, most of the remainder being slightly elevated areas on which soil may he admixed with rock fragments, or laterite may be developed. Exposures of bedrock are very rare; however, one small but relatively conspicuous hill near the anomalies is the site of good exposures of quartzite ('Origin Hill'). The area surrounding the anomalies has been gridded, the grid extending 5 km east-west and generally at least .3.5 km north-south. (The ends of some lines, particularly in the rarely visited southern side of the area, have fallen into disrepair; and elsewhere lines have been extended beyond the more general 22.2N so that geological mapping might be extended.) Vehicle tracks follow the north-south grid lines which are gcnerally 400 m apart (30.0 m between 28 and 31E; 500 m between 0EW and 5W) and there are also east-west tracks, particularly those at 18N and 0NS, so all parts of the area selected for particular investigation are fairly readily accessible. Detours are necessary at some parts of a rocky ridge extending east and west-south-west, from 30E on 0NS, and on the largest incised creeks situated to north and south of that ridge ('Koolpin Ridge'). The area is easily reached by about 7 km of bush track running fairly directly southwards from Barramundie Lagoon on the Pine Creek - Cooinda Highway which is well-graded, but not surfaced. In wet weather, particularly the summer wet season, the soil-based bush tracks cannot carry any vehicular traffic and even the highway may be impassable because of flooded creek crossings. On the project tenements detailed drilling has taken place along with extensive geochemical surveys. Both radiometrics and magnetics have been flown to determine any substantial ground targets. Commodites being explored for are primarily uranium followed by base metals and copper.
